TBX Free Review
TBX Free is a stop smoking aid that calms cigarette cravings with fast acting dissolvable strip film that promises to help smokers quit their unhealthy addiction. Here’s our review of whether or not the TBX Free strip delivery technology actually works.
What is TBX Free?
TBX Free is made by Redwood Scientific Technologies and acts as a “stop smoking aid” that promises to calm cigarette cravings using a small strip placed inside your mouth that is free of nicotine, tobacco and tar.
You place the TBXFree strip inside your mouth, and it quickly dissolves to deliver ingredients directly into your bloodstream. TBX Free claims to be different from nicotine gums and patches because it doesn’t contain carcinogens. Instead, it just uses an ingredient called cytisine that “absorbs quickly into the body to give the overwhelming sensation that you have just smoked a real cigarette”, according to the makers of TBX Free.
The thin film dissolves in less than 25 seconds. In clinical trials, the makers of TBXFree claim their strip was “proven to help smokers quit their addiction with an 88% success rate.”
So does TBX Free actually work? Let’s take a closer look.
How Does TBX Free Work?
TBX Free works using a dissolvable oral strip. You open the TBX Free, place the strip inside your mouth, and the strip dissolves in under 25 seconds, quickly delivering the active ingredients into your bloodstream.
The active ingredient in TBX Free is called cytisine. After cytisine enters your bloodstream, you purportedly feel like you just smoked a cigarette, instantly fixing your craving. The strip contains absolutely no nicotine. It also claims to be FDA-registered for maximum safety and effectiveness.
Cytisine, according to the makers of TBX Free, has been “proven to be effective in numerous clinical studies at world renowned universities.” In one cited study performed by the University of Sheffield, researchers found that cytisine was effective at an 88% success rate “when given in proper dosages” to a group of 10,10 participants. Those researchers referenced 21 other studies on cytisine.
So what is the proper dosage? There’s 8mg of Cytisine in each strip of TBX Free, which is right in line with the recommended daily dosage for cytisine.
Cytisine, according to Wikipedia, is an alkaloid that occurs naturally in several plant families. It has a molecular structure similar to nicotine and delivers similar pharmacological effects.
Today, stop smoking aids use a branded form of Cytisine called Tabex, which is widely available throughout Eastern Europe. Tabex has been extensively studied and has proven moderately effective. In one study, for example, cytisine was shown to improve 12 month abstinence from nicotine from 2.4% with placebo to 8.4% with cytisine.
The recommended dose of Cytisine is 9mg a day. When taken in tablet form, Cytisine stop smoking aids typically contain 1.5mg of Cytisine per tablet, and you take one tablet every 2 hours throughout the day. That makes the 8mg dose in TBX Free look relatively high.
It’s important to note that the “Drug Facts” section for TBX Free doesn’t say that each strip contains 8mg of Cytisine. It’s unclear if each strip contains 8mg of Cytisine – which would be a relatively high dosage – or if there’s 8mg total in the 20 strips – which would be a relatively low dosage.
Other ingredients in the strip include pullulan, natural mint extract, sugar, menthol, licorice, and aspartame.
